Take a romantic escapade to Boracay, known for its pristine beaches, picturesque sunsets, and affordable accomodation and dining options. Located about 300km south of Manila, Boracay is popular with travellers but remains a good alternative to more well known beach destinations in the region. Couples won’t have to go far to find an isolated beach, or to enjoy a romantic dinner at a cosy restaurant along the coast. If you are looking for more excitement, a variety of water sports are available. Excursions to enjoy the island’s colourful culture also be arranged. Three days are perfect for enjoying the best of Boracay.
Getting to the isolated island is an adventure itself. You have to fly to cebu or Manila first, and then connect to Caticlan Airport. From Caticlan, it is short boat ride to Boracay.
DAY ONE: ENJOY THE SUN, SAND AND SEA
Kick off your gateway with a romantic picnic lunch on the beach – the secluded and spacious Balinghai Beach and Puka Shell Beach on the northern end of the island are good choices. Pack a bite from your hotel or buy something from one of the restaurants.
In the afternoon, you can go snokelling, scuba diving, reef walking, helmat diving, windsurfing parasailing or jet-skiing.
If you prefer a less active afternoon, get a massage from one of the many mobile masseurs who ply their trade along the beach. Round off your day in the sun with a romantic stroll on the beach and watch the suset before dinner.
DAY TWO: HORSE RIDES AND SHOPPING
Check out Boracay on a horse. Gallop along the beach, ride through the local villages or visit Mount Luho and the lush greenary that surround it.
Shopping in Boracay is a fun experience. Beachwear, souvenirs and local crafts are popular among tourists. D’Mall is the island’s main shopping centre, selling clothes, gifts, bags, ornamental carvings and food. It is just a five minute taxi ride from White Beach.
Also take time to visit Talipapa Market (between Boracay Main Road and White Beach). Lots of yummy tropical fruits here. It is great for souvenirs and the like, but many go there for the seafood because it is fresh, cheap and plentiful. Select your choice of fish, prawns, crabs or lobsters from one of these market stalls and have the vendor barbecue them for you. Find a quiet spot on the beach and tuck in.
